Sand animational improvisational performance in schools
In the 2025/2026 academic year, we are offering an interactive improvisational performance for schools "Sprīdītis".
This is an opportunity to see and experience up close how the story of Sprīdītis is created with sand and the artist's hand movements, as well as try drawing it yourself!
The performance takes place in a classroom setting. Students first watch the artist's drawn story about Sprīdītis and then, together with improvisational theater actor Artūrs Breidaks, help invent and draw the continuation of Sprīdītis story themselves.
Lesson duration: 40 minutes.
Price: 8-9 euros per student (depending on the location of the school);
The minimum number of students is 75 - i.e. classes must be registered for at least 3 classes to reserve an off-site event (classes take place separately for each class in one of the classrooms).

How does an interactive improvisational performance work?

At the beginning of the performance/lesson, students watch on the screen as the artist draws a sandbox story about Sprīdītis and his adventures.
In the continuation of the performance, the students themselves become directors and artists of the performance, and help create and invent the continuation of the sand cinema story. The continuation of the story will be about Sprīdītis search for happiness and new adventures in modern Latvia. Can happiness be found in Latvia? Where to look for it? What might Sprīdītis look like now? Where would he go and who would he meet?
The students, together with the improviser, actively participate with their ideas, and also complement the performance with their own drawings.
At the end of the lesson, all the students write their names on the sand table, creating the end credits for their film. Then, the students are very surprised that their short film has been recorded and we watch it together on the screen.
Talsi Elementary School
The students watched with bated breath as a miracle was conjured up before their eyes with their hands - a HUMAN, not a computer program. There was so little left for the children to marvel at... Yes, but this was a surprise!
Riga 84th Elementary School
Thank you! The children really, really....... really liked it. They will definitely cooperate. The teachers are also delighted.
Riga Lithuanian Secondary School
On November 1, sand cinema artists visited our school. Students had the opportunity to watch the sand cinema performance "Around the World". During the lesson, students, together with the sand artist, invented and created their own story. Each student was given the opportunity to become a sand artist and participate in the film-making process.
With everyone actively working together, a sand cinema created by our students was created. Joy, positive emotions and loud applause for the artists and also for themselves for their achievements!
